GOVERNOR JOHN LONYANGAPUO GETS STUCK ON A PATHETIC IMPASSABLE ROAD

IMPASSABLE ROAD OVER HEAVY RAINS  FORCES KENYA REDCROSS AND GOVERNOR STUCK 

The Kenya Red cross  Secretary General Dr Aisha Mohammed,Westpokot governor and other government officials  yesterday got stuck  for hours  on the  dilapidated   Kapsait –Kapsangar –Sekution road      following the heavy down pour.

The delegation was heading to Nyarkulian area in Pokot South Sub County to resettle   families that were affected by landslides late last year.

Governor Lonyangapuo was forced to alight and trek for several kilometers as he waited   for an excavator to clear the pathetic  road that is under construction by the National Government.

The governor appealed on roads and public works, committee transport and public works increase funds for roads in such areas .

 Lonyangapuo   said residents in other areas in the county are starving as the area is the food basket for the County and other neighboring counties. 

He urged the national treasury   to release money to counties to help rehabilitate the roads.

Other Travelers also got stranded   after vehicles were unable to move because of the deplorable condition of the road that is currently under construction.

Residents are now forced to use tractors    decrying the pathetic state of roads in the area following the heavy rainfall pounding the area.

One resident Losiareng  called on the government to intervene or they will lose the whole season crops as it will mean they will not afford to pay   their children’s school fees since they have nothing else to sell for that purpose.

He said the  region’s economy is being affected by the poor state of the roads  hence incurring  huge losses  for the last one week after their milk got spoiled in their homes because they could not transport milk to the cooling plants.

Losiareng   said dairy farmers in the region are forced to use donkeys in transportation of milk to cooling plants and some go bad before arriving due to long distances.

Mr. John Kipyego  a business person  said he is unable to work because of the deplorable state of the road.

Over 300 farmers and business people in  the area  counting huge losses after  the    road  was rendered impassable following the heavy down pour that pounded the area   four consecutive days.
