Police in Nanyuki today arrested 17 people who had their face masks improperly worn while others had no mask at all.
The swoop happened in the town center as ununiformed police pounded on those who were hanging their masks under the chin and those who were moving around their businesses without the masks as required to contain the spread of COVID 19.
Those arrested were put in a police vehicle at Nanyuki’s Central Park where members of the public had planned to block the police vehicles from leaving on allegation that the police were overcrowding those arrested in their vehicle.
However, the officers called for reinforcement and an escort car arrived on time to disperse the crowd that was gathering in the area.
Police shot in the air after some of their tear gas canisters went without exploding and the Lorry ferrying those arrested was escorted to the Nanyuki Police station.
According to police report 10 out of those arrested had their masks wrongly worn and were warned and released unconditionally while seven who never had one were given police bond to appear in court later.
A police officer who sought anonymity said that the swoop will continue and warned cautioned residents to abide by the set rules in the fight against Corona Virus.
