Governor Mwangi wa Iria said his administration is working on constructing an orthopedic centre at Kirwara Hospital, Gatanga.
Speaking after he inspected the construction of the multi-million shillings project, Iria said hundreds of Kenyans, especially the aged, have suffered for decades over lack of a public facility specialised in orthopedic.
“ It has been a problem to take our elderly parents to Kijabe Mission Hospital, thus need for the county government to construct the first public facility for the orthopedic purpose,” he said.
Equipment found in the Indian hospitals where majority of Kenyans are flown to for treatment will be shipped in to Murang’a, Wa Iria revealed.
Last month, a 35 bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was commissioned to serve all Kenyans for free.
“We cannot charge our people after they are rejected in the private facilities due to lack of Sh400,000 demanded as deposit,” said the government.
The county government, he disclosed, was working on construction of a seven storey Cancer Centre, designed to be completed in December.
