A 70 years old man who is suspected to have been infected with Covid-19 virus suddenly died today early in the morning at Mwingi Town in Kitui county, after he was taken to Mwingi level IV hospital complaining of chest problems and shortage of breath.
The elderly man who hails from Mathuki location in Mwingi East Sub county is said to have been rushed o hospital yesterday after he complained of problems in breathing. After he was taken to Mwingi level Hospital he was given first aid but doctors told him to go home and go back there today for further check-ups. However, the old man succumbed to the yet to be verified complications at around 0800 hrs in the morning.
According to an eye witness Maliti Mengi, residents of Mwingi were caught with shock by the information of the man who had died and many were afraid that the case would be a Covid-19 death. However, according to him it is unlikely that Covid-19 had killed the man because the man was already struggling with old age.
Confirming the incidence, Mwingi central sub county police commander Peter Mutuma said that after getting the information of the sudden death, he liaised with the Ministry of Health officials in charge of Mwingi Level IV hospital who send their officials to collect the body alongside police officers from Mwingi police station.
According to Mutuma, the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained but investigation are ongoing to ascertain the cause of death.
The police boss warned Mwingi residents against violating the set guidelines by the ministry of health, as Covid-19 was real and could infect anyone, anywhere without minding their social status or age.
